This week we are joined by Renan Lopes de Lira, who has a Bachelor in Psychology and Master in Clinical Psychology and Culture from the University of Brasilia. Renan is a PhD candidate at the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Otago - Wellington campus. Renan’s PhD research is entitled 'The mental health impacts of exposure to suicide among first responders and mental health professionals'. Join us as we discuss the struggles of mental health professionals as they deal with suicide, as well as how suicidality has changed over the past few years.

Marjorie Baldwin is a Professor in the Department of Economics at Arizona State University, who has an international reputation for her research on employment discrimination against workers with mental disabilities. She is the author of a book titled, Beyond Schizophrenia: Living and Working with a Serious Mental Illness, and is currently principal investigator for a four-year study on disclosure of serious mental illness in the workplace, sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health.
Today we discuss her professional and personal history with the stigmas and hardships surrounding serious mental illness.

Dr. Appel is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where he serves as Director of Ethics Education in Psychiatry and Assistant Director of Academy for Medicine & the Humanities. He is currently co-chair of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry's Committee on Psychiatry and the Law and a judge for the 2021 National Book Critics Circle Awards.
In this episode we discuss the practice of conservatorships, recently brought into the public eye by media coverage of Brittney Spears' rejection of her own. Dr. Appel covers why conservatorships are used in the first place, how they can go wrong, and what can be done to prevent their misuse.

Our guest this week is CBI's own Alexander Antonucci, a Licensed Professional Counselor who joined the Cognitive Behavior Institute team in January of 2018. Certified by the Gottman Institute, he specializes in working with couples dealing with infidelity, communication issues, addiction, challenges with physical and emotional intimacy, resentment, and conflict. He also works with individuals dealing with a range of personal challenges including major life transitions, anxiety, grief, depression, difficult relationships, spiritual troubles, and trauma. Conferred an MA degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University, Alexander has trained with some of the world’s leading mindfulness and meditation teachers. He integrates the contemplative qualities brought about through mindfulness into his counseling practice to assist his clients in expanding their capacity to handle difficult emotions, find meaning, and create the life that they want to live.
